Review: The Four Legendary Kingdoms

The Four Legendary Kingdoms
The Four Legendary Kingdoms by Matthew Reilly

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Jack West Junior is back, just when you thought that series was over. We revisit him eight years after the last book, Five Greatest Warriors.
He gets kidnapped and finds himself in Hades, where he has to participate in games that recreate the 12 Labours of Hercules. The books dives immediately to action and keeps you turning the pages. Realistically I don’t think a 47 year-old man can do 12 intense combat activities in two days without sleep, even if he keeps himself fit in the Australian outback. But hey, it makes a good read and Aussies seem to be fitter for longer (or at least they give that impression).
What I didn’t like was that India and Sri Lanka were nominated as the Kingdom of the Underworld with Hyderabad referring to Hades. Not great if you are of Indian or Sri Lankan origin to read that. The other three Kingdoms Land (Europe, Middle East and rest of Asia), Sea (the Americas) and Air (Tibet) are great for those countries!
